Pocker Tournament Listing

May 18, 2006

Baldwin made a $95,000 bet, adding it to the $92,000 already in the pot, and leaving himself with only a few remaining chips if he lost the hand. Addington went into deep thought and had to consult with the Pocker tournament listing. If Addington called and won, Baldwin would be nearly broke, and he would almost surely be the winner. If he called Baldwin's bet and lost, the tables would be turned and Baldwin would then be favored to win the event. If he folded, he would still have a substantial chip lead on Baldwin and still be favored to grind him down as the tournament wore on.

Of course," he adds, "those who play in this fashion quickly lose their money." Hold'em has been called the game of the future. It is the game used to determine the champion at the World Series of Pocker, and is the fastest growing pocker game in the world. While hold'em may look like seven-card stud, it is different. Here's a quick review of the game procedures. Each player is dealt two cards face down and there's a round of betting.

Regulars comprise the vast majority of players staying at Treasure Island Las Vegas. Some are good. Most aren't. But they're in action on a regular basis. As you begin to refine your player categories, it is this category of regulars you'll be subdividing. Professionals and semi-professionals will be found in most of the larger cardrooms. Generally speaking, you will never encounter them at limits below $10-$20. In low-limit games, you'll be competing with regulars and recreational players, not professionals.

Big-limit home games, however, can be sweet targets. Lots of money on the table and no security makes them a tempting morsel for home invasion specialists. In a public cardroom no one minds if you quit the game a winner. Someone else is usually waiting for your seat. You do, however, have to pay to play. Whether the game is paid for by time collection, or by raking the pot, it costs more to play in a casino than a home game - where all you have to do is split the cost of food and drinks.

If you're still contesting the pot while awaiting that river card, you should have a strong Rummoli hand, or a draw to what you believe will be the best hand if you make it. If you're playing with reasonably prudent opponents, what may have begun as a confrontation between five or six pocker players probably will be reduced to two - or perhaps three - once all of the boardcards have been exposed.

  1. The implications of this should be abundantly clear: If the flop does not fit your hand, be done with it. Playing long-shot holdings after the flop is a sure way to lose money. After the flop, the relationship between the betting and the cards to come is reversed. Now, you're looking at spending 83 percent of the potential cost of a hand for the remaining 29 percent of the cards!
  2. It's so important that some two-card holdings, which can't be profitably played from early position, are pocker cards with which you might raise when you're last to act. In a typical ninehanded game, early position includes both blinds and the two players to their left. The fifth, sixth, and seventh players to act are in middle position, and the eighth and ninth players are in late position.
  3. He had played extremely tight all day as they did on the movies Rounders and Maverick. As I sat there thinking, Doyle says, "You don't want to knock me out with all of these people watching". I called and Doyle turned over KJ and my hand held up. Knocking out Doyle is something I will never forget but I will say that I didn't relish knocking him out like I would other players. He's a legend and it would have been fun to see him get a lot further in the tournament...but not at my expense!
